Acting as Q are Dillon Burke (aka the Grand Vizier) and Robert Garnett (aka Duncan).
Summary:
Night round. Bugs vs Grunts. Missions. Silly Props
Players should be prepared to play at least one side (bugs or marines). As two games will be run there will be an opportunity to switch sides after the first game. If you want to switch sides you should bring what is required for both teams. 'Civilian' roles are available as 'Medics' or 'Journalists' for people that wish to observe the game without taking an actively combatant role. NB All humans taste the same to a bug!
Briefing:
6:00 pm, Friday 30 April, in the UCSA Carpark. Game will start ~6:30 pm and finish by ~8:00 pm.
Equipment:
All players must bring:
Bugs must bring:
Marines must bring:
Optional stuff to bring:
Stuff to Avoid:
No balaclava masks. No melee weapons. No realistic looking weapons. This is basically anything that looks like a 'real' weapon, or is painted in dark black/brown or metallic colours. No laser pointers. We will have red cellophane to wrap over the end of the torches. No camouflage gear/facepaint. Leave the DPM trousers/jackets at home. Plain khaki military tunics/trousers, gold braid, and silly hats/berets/helmets are acceptable. Anyone that shoots an innocent bystander will be sent home.
Combat Rules:
If a GM calls 'HOLD' all players within hearing range must immediately
cease all activity. Play recommences when a GM calls 'PLAY ON'. A hold
may be called for safety reasons, or for the adjudication of the use of
tactical nuclear weapons.
A Marine is 'killed' when they are touched by a Bug Warrior. The Bug
Warrior must make it clear to the Marine that they have been killed by
saying 'GOTCHA' (or something like that). Marines can also be killed by
'friendly fire' (see Grenades and TNW).
A Bug is killed when they notice a hit from a waterpistol, or are
splashed/struck by a water bomb. Notice means see/feel/hear. NB Small
non-air pressured waterpistols might not be noticed by Bugs wearing
raincoats - this means the shot is ineffective. Aim for the 'central nerve
stem' (face/head) or use a bigger waterpistol.
If there is a disputed kill at point blank range the default resolution is
for a simultaneous kill. Players caught 'rhino-hiding' (ie not accepting a
fair kill) will be summarily executed by being thrown into the creek.
Medic Rules:
The Marine team will be given a number of Medics. Each Medic will carry a limited number of 'First Aid' kits. A Medic can expend a First Aid Kit to ressurrect any Marine that has been killed by a Bug Warrior. Medics may be combatants. A dead Marine may not move or talk (but see Bodysnatching below).
Bodysnatching:
Any 'dead' marine that is not guarded by a living marine may be removed by Bug warriors. This requires that two Bug Warriors escort the Marine back to the Hive Queen. The Hive Queen may then resurrect the Marine as a Bug warrior. A Marine that becomes a bug loses the ability to use firearms, bombs, first aid kits or torches.
Bug Waves:
The Hive Queen will be given a limited number of 'wave' cards. Each time a wave card is expended all the dead bugs currently with the Hive Queen are immediately resurrected. If the Hive Queen runs out of Wave cards they may voluntarily enter combat. Otherwise the Hive Queen may not choose to initiate combat with the Marines unless they have been backed into a corner/dead end and are attempting to make an escape.
Grenades:
Some Marines may be issued with water balloon 'grenades'. These should only be thrown at targets clearly identified as Bugs. A splash or contact hit with the greande is sufficient to kill a Bug or Marine. A contact hit will kill even if the grenade did not actually 'explode'. Bugs may not pick up grenades and they may not throw them back at the Marines. They may however 'destroy' any unexploded grenades they find lying on the ground.
Tactical Nuclear Weapons (TNW):
A few Marines may be given TNW cards. A GM is required to fire a TNW at the Bugs. The player must point out where they are firing the TNW (ie must be within line-of-sight). The GM will move to that spot and call HOLD. The GM will the use their torch to scan the area. Anyone, Bug or Marine, that they see is immediately killed. Marines can also 'suicide' with a TNW if they are about to be overrun by Bugs.
Vehicles and Superbugs:
Anyone willing to spend the time and money on constructing a vehicle or superbug may do so. These should basically be like a big pantomine costume. All such projects must be cleared with both the GMS before the game begins. Some examples are given below:
