Listen:
Music that had, and still has a lot of rotation at KAOS parties and
drinkies over the years. Most of the entries appeared in the Top Ten
played at the 2001/2002 New Years party, as voted for by readers of
the party list. Others are just peculiar to KAOS playlists for some
reason.
- Warren Zevon
- Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner - The first track on the
first party played at the first ever KAOS party, sometime in
1981.
- The Sisters of Mercy
- The Sisters ruled KAOS party tapes throughout the late 80's and
90's, and probably would still if they hadn't gone on strike in
1992. Check out Dominion, This Corrosion and Temple of Love.
- Shriekback
- So dark and yet so funky. There albums are hard to find these
days, yet they put out an album on an indie label in 2000.
Nemesis, Hammerheads, My Spine Is The Bassline are KAOS
favourites (or, indeed, everything on Oil & Gold).
- Headless Chickens
- Body Blow was a huge album by the standards of their DIY record
label, Flying Nun, and just about every track from it has crept
into KAOS party playlists during the 90's. Greedy was quite a
good album, too. Choppers, Donde Esta La Pollo and George still
get regular rotation.
- Nine Inch Nails
- Always make sure the rellies have left the wedding reception
before you start playing Closer as Trent Reznor has rather good
enunciation, particularly when it comes to expletives.
But we love Closer, none the less, as well as Head Like A Hole,
Sin, Into the Void, Wish and Deep.
- Rammstein
- Metal that's fun to dance to! And sing along in bad Engdeutch with
in the hope that they're actually just nursery rhymes or
something. Which is ok, because the band say they used to sing
along to English songs they didn't understand, too.
- "The Lost Boys" Soundtrack
- One of the first films to really use the popular rock acts
on the soundtrack gimmick successfully. Echo and the Bunnymen's
cover of 'People Are Strange', and 'Cry Little Sister' are
still quite popular.
- "The Crow" Sountrack
- Particularly Burn by the Cure, Dead Souls, a Joy Division cover
by Nine Inch Nails and After The Flesh by My Life With The Thrill
Kill Kult.
- "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" Soundtrack
- All good, but particularly The Timewarp and Sweet Transvestite.
- The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy radio series
- It has a lot of material in it that never made it to the books or
TV series.
- The The
- Particularly the album Infected.
- Tainted Love
- As covered by Soft Cell, Marilyn Manson, or HLAH
- Placebo
- Every You, Every Me, Special K, 20th Century Boy, amongst others.
- David Bowie
- Let's Dance, Cat People (movie version), Magic Dance, and
the rest.
- The Cure
- Especially Love Cats, Close To Me, Friday I'm In Love and Lullaby.
- Marylin Manson
- Especially Beautiful People, I Don't Like The Drugs, Dance of the Dope Hats.
- Split Enz
- Especially I See Red and Six Months In A Leaky Boat
- Tom Lerher
- The Remains of Tom Lerher
